Lynda Schmidt
CCSP®, New Dundee

Q. Everyone's definition of success is different; what does being successful mean to you?

A.The ultimate outcome of my work is when I know I am successful. Property's that sell, due to assistance from my staging ability. I feel successful when I motivate clients to trust me and do the recommendations that play a big role in the goal. I feel successful that I have a business based on almost exclusively from referrals.

Q. What do you feel is you or your company's biggest achievement since taking the CSP Course?

A.My biggest achievement is having been the first Home Stager in my city and staying in the business and seeing it grow year after year.

Q. What did you do before embarking on the life of a Certified Staging Professional?

A.I have always been in the business of professional creative - visual presentation (36 years) . My educational background includes Interior Decorating (Conestoga College), Architectural drafting (Assiniboine College) and Canadian Business (University of Brandon) . I started my working career in retail display, design and merchandising, working with companies such as - Dylex Corporation, Dalmy's, Ricki's and The Bay. Onto professional theatre as a set dresser and properties master, costume coordinator and seamstress (Rainbow Stage and Manitoba Theatre Centre in Winnipeg, K-W Musical Productions, Theatre Wilfred Laurier at WLU, Waterloo Stage Theatre, Drayton Festival Theatre. Following my life in the theatre I worked in Commercial photography with local photo studios as a set and prop stylist with clients such as Schnieder's Meats, Mirolin Bath , M&M Meats, Pillar Meats, Broil King BBQ's and New Orleans Pizza. In 2004 I took my first Staging certification with Christine Rae.

Q. What did your friends or family think about your decision of starting a staging business?

A.They thought it was great – an extension of what I always had done –just a different medium. Everything I loved to do, everything my educational background supported, and everything my work experience complimented.

Q. If you could give advice to someone considering entering the staging industry what would it be?

A.It takes time to build relationships and get a solid reputation in the real estate industry. Keep at it - if you are persistant and consistant with quality designs, you will be successful.

Q. If you could give advice to a Certified Staging Professional who hasn't quite made it to "success" yet, what would you tell them?

A.Persevere and work hard. Two saying's comes to mind. "The harder I work, the luckier I get" and "When you find something you love to do you will never work another day"....I think of them both often.

Q. What would you tell a potential student as the BEST thing about being a CSP is?

A. You will get the best Staging training there is. You will get the support you need – for the asking. You will have available to you continuing education - for the taking. You will have a respected certification that is recognized in Real Estate and Staging world.
