The challenge of this property was to create a kitchen with a luxurious look with minimal investment and provide a quality product. To construct the door fronts, thick baseboard moldings were used to create a frame around each door. A channel was cut into the molding with a slot cutter bit (router). The frames were then drilled for dowel and glued for added strength. A wainscot panel was inserted for the door front. New cost effective metal hinges, handles and neutral countertops were added. Knowing a sandblasted glass top was not in the budget I used a frosted vinyl tablecloth and placed it underneath the glass for a sandblasted effect. For a cohesive look, matching wainscot was installed around the exterior of the island.

As you can see in the before picture there were no cabinets existing on this wall therefore they were constructed in the same manner and material as the other fronts.

Two After Photos of the Home Made Island

Being a property investor myself and knowing that buyers rank storage as one of their top priorities an island was constructed. The island was created as a free standing furniture piece from a refurbished table top, with 4x4 fence posts for legs, MDF was used for shelving and baskets added for storage.
