Home Staging 101: Inspire Confidence and Establish Your Value

Technology has made all of our lives more convenient than ever. Just think about it—10 years ago, most people hadn’t even heard of a smart phone. Now most of us couldn’t get through the day without our iPhone. And just 20 years ago, email wasn’t accessible to the general public.

Of course, technological evolution brings with it challenges for many businesses—just ask your local bookstore. That is, if you still have a local bookstore now that Amazon.com is dominating the market. Or ask the manager of a traditional brick-and-mortar video rental store how sales have been now that Netflix is on the scene.

The point here is simple: technological developments have the potential to shake up any industry at any time.

We are seeing this happen in the real estate market, as more and more buyers and sellers decide to forego an agent and handle the process themselves. They have access to the data and information they need in order to connect with a potential buyer or seller, as well as manage the transaction itself. So why spend money on a broker? So the thinking goes.

As a home staging professional, this trend has repercussions for you as well. So what can you do to convince homeowners of your value? How can you inspire the confidence that your services will be well worth the cost?

There are many solutions to this challenge—but below are several ideas to get your wheels turning.

1)     Highlight statistics that reflect your value. You and I know the math—home sellers that utilize professional staging services typically sell their homes more quickly and for more money than those who don’t. Make sure your prospects know this, as well!

2)     Showcase success stories. What type of results have you achieved in the past? Tell these stories—and include as many details as possible.

3)     Feature testimonials. Testimonials are a powerful sales tool—so ask satisfied clients to share their thoughts. Once you’ve collected a strong list, feature them prominently on your website and your marketing materials.
